Safe Streets wants you to be safe and secure. That includes protecting your credit information. Here are a few things to keep in mind from 101-identitytheft.com:
- Credit Card fraud is the most common type of identity theft.
- The most common way it occurs is the thief opens a new credit card account in the victim’s name.
- Use a shredder for all your sensitive information before discarding in the trash. A thief digging through your trash can take a pre-approved offer application form and simply write a different address and phone making it look like you’ve moved.
- Have copies of the front and back of all your credit cards in a safety box so if you are victimized you can take action immediately.
- Check your credit card statements frequently and call immediately if a problem has occurred.

- Only carry the cards you will use.
- Never give information over the phone.
